Some thoughts about Tong School from the Pupils

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School is in Tong. Outside the school is blue and white. The classroom is blue. We do all kinds of things in the classroom. The teachers are friendly and kind. The children are kind. I like Tong School. if you didn’t have anyone to play with we would play with you. We will look after you. We have hopscotch and snakes and ladders on the playground. And we have the alphabet on the playground.

The school is cool. Don’t you think?

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School is in the middle of Tong. Our school is blue and white. Our classroom has a map and science workbooks. And we have a bird table outside. And we have skipping ropes. We do Speedcount and Science. Our teachers are helpful. We help one and other. The teachers like presents and cards. When it is Christmas our school will have a Christmas tree and we will have decorations on the Christmas tree. We will have a star on top of the Christmas tree. We will have a Christmas party and we will have a Christmas dinner. And we will have drinks. We will have lots of food and we will have holly cakes too. I like Tong School. We have snakes and ladders and lots of other games on the playground.

Tong School is great.

We are kind and nice. We will be in P3. I like every boy and girl. We have a bird table. We have a black board. I like Tong School. I like Science. Our teacher is called Miss Ferguson. We have readings books. We have spelling challenges. We have a book corner. We have to be honest. Outside it is blue and white. We have a toilet in our classroom. On Wednesdays Miss Macleod comes in. We have lots of boys and girls. We have a happy face chart. On Mondays we have music with Mr Hill. We have stickers to give out. We have a playground. On Fridays we have art.

I like Tong School.

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School has been refurbished. We have a lovely playground. We have some flower pots with flowers in the pots. Tong School is the best in the world. The playground has black tar on the ground.

As you enter the two doors you see a red carpet. You see two benches in the bright corridor. You can feel the warmth. The school is comfortable. You can see a lot of biiks and cacti and you can read something about the desert.

There are three classes. Our class has a dark blue carpet. There is a cream wall and a big white and round clock. It has black numbers and black hands. We have three maps.

There are three teachers. The first one is Miss Ferguson. The second one is Miss Maciver and the last one is Mrs Kennedy. We have school rules so we can be safe in school. On Monday we have music, on Thursday we have gym and on Friday we have art. The teachers are kind and helpful.

Your decision should be Tong School. The teachers are kind and friendly. The people in Tong School are friendly. They make you welcome and they make you happy. The people are respectful; and caring for you.

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School is situated in the middle of Tong. It looks very inviting and welcoming. The school is newly refurbished. It was only refurbished three years ago. Around the school there is playground furniture on the springy green grass. Tong School has a lot of playground games on the tarmac. We welcome everyone to Tong School. Tong School is the best school on the island, I think. We have tubs with lovely flowers at the side of the school.

As soon as you enter you see on the left hand side a peacock with a few of the children’s names. Under your feet there is a brown, sharp carpet. In the corner, is our bin "Losgan". You push open a door and you are in our bright colourful corridor. The car;et on the floor is a red carpet, the walls are coloured a creamy colour. There are two benches against the wall. In the school there are three classrooms. There is also a hall in which we have our assembly each week. The classroom on the right of the door belongs to Miss Ferguson. She teaches Primary one and two. Along the corridor on the left hand side is Miss Maciver’s class. Next to her room is the girls’ toilet. Beside the girls’ toilet there is a door. In our class, there is a blue carpet on the floor. The wall colour is cream against the wall. There is a few computers sitting on some tables. There is also one or two printers. We work very hard. We have a lot of work to do, so we have no time to waste. My favourite subject is Maths.

In our school there are three full time teachers. They are Miss Ferguson, the infant teacher, Miss Maciver, Primary 3 & 4 teacher and Mrs Kennedy, the Headteacher who also teaches Primary 5, 6 & 7. I think the teachers work very hard. We have travelling teachers too. They are Mrs White, our gym teacher, Mrs Smith, the art teacher, Mrs Macleod, the sewing teacher and Mr Hill, the music teacher.

Your decision should be Tong School. It is the best school on earth. We welcome you to our school because we love having new pupils. We are kind and caring to everyone especially new children. You should pick Tong School. it is the best school for you. All the children are friendly.

TONG SCHOOL

From the outside my school is blue and white. We have plant pots beside the door. We also have wooden benches with the names of all the pupils that have recently left. We are very lucky because we have playground games – such as snakes and ladders, hopscotch, a clock and a snake with the alphabet on it – painted onto the ground. At the side of the school we have all the lines of a football pitch painted on the ground, with goals at each end.

As you walk into the school you can see a peacock and written on it is everything that everyone has achieved or what they have been praised for. If you carry on walking, your eyes will rest on our trophy cabinet.

There are fifty four pupils in the school, and in my opinion, we are hard working. There are about twelve teachers in our school. Everything that we have learned we owe it all to them.

Every year we participate in competitions such as the Broadbay Football Tournament. We also arrange things like Christmas party and homwork club. I think that the school trips are one of the best things that we do in school.

We have a pupil noticeboard to inform the pupils about anything that goes on. We are also arranging a new School Community Conservation Garden. Anyone who wants can go into the garden.

In my opinion I am very thankful for everything that we have in this school and especially for the new garden that we will have soon. I think that everyone is well mannered and that there is no bullying going on in this school. I hope it will remain like that. While I have the chance I would like to thank all the teachers for everything they have taught us.

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School is situated in a village called Tong. It is in the centre of Tong. It is just up the road from my house.

The colour of the outside of it is blue and while and I think that, that is a good choice of colour. When you walk into our school, you will see a brown, sharp carpet in our porch.

The pupils in Tong School are very friendly and caring. If you were feeling sad then they would try to cheer you up. Or if you fell, they would come and help you and put a plaster on you and they would try to make you happy. If you felt bored, they would take you out to play with them. If you had forgotten your playpiece then they would give you a bag of crisps or something. I would say that Tong School pupils are kind and generous.

The education in Tong School is very good. We also get a lot of subjects. I like all the subjects but I have four favourties. They are Gaelic, French, English and Mathematics. I like Gaelic because I can speak the language and I can understand it. I like French because it is fun and enjoyable. We also get a lot more subjects that I have not mentioned because if you had mentioned them, then the whole page would be filled.

We have fifty-four pupils in our school. Miss Ferguson teaches primary one and two, Miss Maciver teaches primary three and four. The Headteacher, Mrs Kennedy, teaches primary five, six and seven. We have twelve teachers in our school.

We have lovely canteen meals. You can go home, have a packed lunch or go to the canteen. If you go to the canteen, you get a choice of two kinds of dinner and two kinds of pudding. The meals are lovely and delicious. We have a table for four to sit at and we eat our dinner in an orderly fashion and speak to one another quietly. We have comfy seats to sit on.

There have been a lot of changes in Tong School. In fact, our school just got refurbished two years ago. It looks very nice and cheerful.

Our school takes part in a lot of different things. Some people take part in the Broad Bay Football Tournament. Also there is the Mod. Every year we have Christmas dinner and we get a Christmas party and Santa Claus comes in and gives everyone a present. The little ones really like it. Also we have a Christmas play and the parents come and watch us perform.

I think Tong School is the best school on the island. If you are looking for a school, Tong is the school for you. I think Tong School is up to a high standard. The teachers are just brilliant and helpful.

TONG SCHOOL

Tong Primary School is situated in the centre of the Tong village. Across the busy Tong road, there is a community hall where we have our Youth Club after school on a Friday and other various activities after school, but during school on Thursdays, we have PE in the Tong Hall. Every year before the National Mod we have a pre-Mod concert for all the pupils who take part and it is usually held in the Tong Hall.

When you walk into the school, you will come in a gate and down our school path and on each side of the path you will see a variety of shrubs planted on a small green grassy hill. As you approach nearer and nearer the school entrance, you will see a large squared snakes and ladders game. There is also hopscotch and a wriggly snake for the younger pupils to learn their a – z of the alphabet while they are outside at the interval. Before you enter the school door, if you walk along you will see our football pitch. We have two places that we can play football – one is on the grass (if it is not too muddy – but hopefully that problem will be sorted out soon and the other place is on the tarmac on which we also play basket ball and pivot ball.

If you walk back to the front of the school you can come up our ramp if you or your friend is handicapped or you can come up the steps. On your way up you will see some potted plants which are watered every second day. But at the weekends our lollipop man comes into the school to water the plants. When you open our brown school door you will see our achievement board with names of some pupils who have achieved something new. If you walk out of the porch, and you look to your left you will see a trophy cabinet with shelves to hold all the trophies. If you turn right you will see primary 1,2 classroom and to one side of the classroom door there is the staffroom and on the other side is our canteen. The next stop is up the corridor, on your right is the hall where we have assembly and other activities. If you walk forward out of the hall you will see Mrs Campbell’s Learning Support classroom. Beside that room is Mrs Moody’s office where she does all her work. If you walk along the corridor again, you will see primary 3,4’s classroom. On the left of that class you will see the girls’ toilet. To enter the next corridor you will have to open a door to get into primary 5,6,7’s corridor. The first room is the boys’ toilet. Then you will see primary 5,6,7 classroom. If you walk along the corridor and turn to your left you will see the GP room where we have music, art and sewing.

There are 54 pupils in our school and there are 8 teachers in our school. there is also a playground supervisor and two cooks.

The most important thing in our school is our education which we get taught very well by all the teachers and even some days they make it quite fun. We have a number of subjects and like most of them. The subjects that we don’t have in the class are music on a Monday with Mr Hill, sewing with Mrs Macleod on a Tuesday, PE on a Thursday with Mrs White and art on a Friday with Mrs Smith. We have Mrs Mackenzie on a Wednesday because Wednesday is Mrs Kennedy’s administration day. We also have a Christmas party, Christmas dinner, Broadbay Football Tournament and various other tournaments and competitions.

Hopefully by March or April our new school/community conservation garden will be finished. The garden will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone to come and relax and hopefully it will not rain too much.

My personal thought on Tong School is that it is the best school and other children who have gone through our school, who are now in secondary school said it was the best school they had been in. I love Tong School.

TONG SCHOOL

Tong School has a large playground. It is tarred all the way around. We have a big football pitch where we sometimes play football. We have two sets of goalposts for playing football. There is a lovely pivot ball court with white lines all the way round the court. The games we have are hopscotch, a clock, snakes and ladders and a snake alphabet. When you walk towards the school there are two benches at the entrance. We have our names engraved on them. We have plants at the entrance and they are very nice and colourful.

As you walk into the school your eyes fill with colour because of all the colourful work we have done. As you walk through the second door you see the trophy cabinet to your left. That is where you will see all the trophies and medals that we have received over the years. We have a lovely red and pink carpet.

Tong School has their own stage which can be put up and dismantled easily. We have lots of blue chairs with a lovely blue covering. We have assembly every Friday and every second week we have Dr Campbell, our chaplain, to talk to us. We have a pupil council for primary seven. We have a meeting every Wednesday at 1.15 pm. We also participate in Mod activities every year. We have homework club after the summer holidays. We were rehearsing for our Christmas play this year. We also have a Christmas dinner and then we have a Christmas party which is very good. We are running our own calendar company, where we make and sell our own calendars.

Tong School’s education is very good. In the morning the bell rings and we go into our classroom and say a prayer. Then the register is called. First thing we do is Spelling, then Mental Maths and Mental Eglish. After that we do our Selling Practice. We have a few more subjects than that but it would take a lot of time to tell about each one. We have RM Maths which is a maths programme which we do on the computer. We have ten minutes for the RM Maths programme each day. We have English Reading every day.

We have twelve teachers and fifty four pupils. The teachers are very strict. If you misbehave you get a row but if you are good you get nothing but praise. If the teachers were not strict then the school would be a disaster. All the children are very kind and sharing. No pupil is scared to come to school. Tong School has no bullies and that is the way it has stayed for many years.

The school meals are very good. The canteen is so well prepared that every Wednesday the cook gives you a menu for you to fill in for the following week, so that the cook knows what to order. We have lovely red chairs and strong tables. The canteen is set out very neatly. The cooks are very nice. If you ask them for something different next week, she will try her best to get it.

At the old school house area there is going to be a lovely big garden built.

I wish I could say in Tong School from primary one to secondary six.
